VEDIC EDUCATION

The education department was started in 1998. ISKCON of Houston offers the following Vaishnava Philosophy courses: Bhakti Sadachar, Bhakti Shastri and Bhakti Vaibhava.

Mission:
To educate, develop and foster higher spiritual values, fulfil the needs of ISKCON members and the larger society bringing about excellence in all areas of human life based on Vedic scriptures.

Accomplishments:

To date, we have certified over hundreds of congregation members in the study of Bhakti Sadachar, Bhakti Shastri and soon we are also certifying Bhakti Vaibhava degrees.

Currently we are conducting both in house as well as Zoom conferences for congregation members who are interested in studying on a weekly basis. We have at least eight different groups studying Bhakti Shastri, each group consisting of anywhere from five to ten students. Each year a new group is started if there are available teachers.

The cost for enrolling in the courses are $108 per year.

The courses take a personal approach to learning. It encourages the student not only to study thoroughly the contents of Srila Prabhupada’s books but also to clearly understand the philosophy and practically apply it.

  • The Bhakti Sadachar course focuses on behavior and character, nurturing students in appropriate Vaishnava values. It also introduces a general understanding of Bhagavad Gita.
  • The Bhakti Shastri course is an in depth study of Bhagavad Gita and the corollaries of bhakti or devotion.
  • The Bhakti Vaibhava course focuses on the in depth study of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Professionally designed and presented, it draws on the principles of Krishna consciousness and the best of progressive education. In this way, it is true to ISKCON’s heritage and at the same time relevant to its mission in contemporary society.

New course schedules begin generally during fall and are offered in multiple locations in Houston. HG Radha Krishna Das, Director of Education leads these programs and offers guidance to the community to grow and imbibe Vaishnava qualities and apply them in our day to day lives pleasing Guru and Krishna.
