Hurricane Harvey Relief #HoustonStrong

As you have seen pictures and videos on local and national news – Hurricane Harvey has caused massive destruction in and around Houston metro area. Since the landfall on Friday night, there has been rain, storm, power outages, home flooding and lives lost due to drowning in flood waters.

Iskcon of Houston lost power for a few days and is restored as of late Friday.

The Sunday feast class given by HG Syamsundara Dasa encouraged everyone to take shelter of Lord Krishna when we face natural disasters and we are hopeful that you and your family/friends are safe and seeing Krishna’s hand during this difficult time.

Even though we are not equipped to be a shelter at this time, we are doing what we can to help the devotees and citizens. For the last 2 days, even without electrical power – we prepared over 500 meals at Govinda’s and served our neighbors and volunteers.

After much deliberation, we have decided to continue with a truncated Kirtan Fest (Saturday and Sunday) now focused on praying for recovery, dedicated to the devotees and citizens suffering from Hurricane Harvey. Krishna, as the super soul in everyone’s heart has inspired Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, to proclaim Sunday, Sept 3 as a Day of Prayer in Texas. Since this is Bhaktivinode Thakur’s appearance day, who envisioned people from all nations coming together in harmony through the blissful chanting of the holy names of Krishna, we are adding an interfaith prayer segment to that day.

Many of our devotees have suffered flooding in their homes and are in the recovery mode. We want to encourage you all to reach out to us and let us know how we can assist you in this difficult situation in your home. Please call 713.686.4482 and let us know.

I am the goal, the sustainer, the master, the witness, the abode, the refuge and the most dear friend. I am the creation and the annihilation, the basis of everything, the resting place and the eternal seed. (BG 9:18)
